On Online Dating Sites the Little Things Can Make A Difference

In the world of online dating and online dating sites as in other areas of life, sometimes it’s true that it’s the little things that can make all the difference in the world. Just like in other areas of life when trying to make a good impression on others, make sure to pay attention to the details of what you are doing and how you are presenting yourself to others in your profile and in your communications.

For example, you might be surprised to learn that even something as simple as your spelling in your online profile or when you are conversing with others online can determine whether they want to remain in contact with you. While there is going to be some wiggle room when instant messaging for abbreviations and text message style talk that is not what is being mentioned here.

A recent survey that went into many different areas of online dating revealed that some people who worked in professional employment were discouraged and saw as a turnoff something as simple as the errors in spelling made by people they were in contact with on online dating sites.

Showing how seriously some took this, it even impacted their decision to stop the friendship as they were looking for a permanent relationship and it appeared to them that the other person wasn’t of an intellect that they would be happy with.

As harsh as that might sound they could be forgiven for their views simply because there is a spell checker that anyone can use on their computer and the newer computers will do it in any application including conversations posted in dating sites. While there are many people, professional or otherwise who can’t spell very well (and anyone can make a mistake), now that this information is out there, think about using the spell check feature when you are unsure of how to spell a word.

The reason why this needs to be mentioned is not to focus on poor spelling but more to focus on the fact that there are little things that can affect your ability to attract someone that otherwise would be interested in you, but they keep them from initiating contact.

So, you might have excellent spelling but it might be quite obvious that you have put very little effort into your profile or you haven’t bothered to use a quality photograph of yourself. Your appearance online is reflected in the things you do online from your photo and profile to the written comments you use to converse with others. These “little” things matter online as people are using as many criteria as they can to make an informed impression.

Now having said all that about spelling, as mentioned above, there is an ever increasing number of people who will type in an instant message or mobile phone text style on the dating sites in chat just as they would communicate on these other media types so don’t be too concerned if you can’t spell that well.

More importantly, just make sure that people understand that you are willing to make an effort and you are attracting the right type of people who will be compatible with your level of intellect. Focus on the little things, and sometimes the other things will fall into place as well.
